Closer Robotics has been featured in the March 16, 2026 issue of Nikkei Business, one of Japan’s leading business publications.
The article appears in the special feature “Now Is the Time for KOSEN”, Part 1: “Evolving Engineers: Demonstrating the True Value of Physical AI.” In this feature, Closer Robotics is highlighted as a representative example of a company developing AI-powered robotics.
Founded in 2021, Closer Robotics focuses on developing robotics solutions that bring AI-driven automation to manufacturing environments. In 2023, the company was selected for J-Startup, a startup support initiative backed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The article introduces the company’s approach to providing compact robotic systems designed for mid-sized factories, particularly in sectors such as food manufacturing. While conventional industrial robots often require substantial upfront investment and specialized expertise to operate, Closer Robotics aims to lower these barriers through proprietary AI-based vision technologies and user-friendly system design.
By emphasizing ease of use and practical deployment, the company enables manufacturing facilities with limited robotics experience to adopt automation more efficiently.
The feature also highlights the strong presence of engineers with backgrounds from Japan’s National Institutes of Technology (KOSEN) within the company. Approximately half of Closer Robotics’ development team consists of KOSEN graduates, whose hands-on engineering expertise plays a key role in advancing the company’s robotics technologies.
Closer Robotics will continue to accelerate the real-world deployment of Physical AI and work toward making advanced robotics technology more accessible to manufacturing industries worldwide.
