Closer Inc. (CEO: Shota Higuchi, Headquarters: Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as "Closer") has been selected for the 2023 NEDO "SBIR Promotion Program" (Consolidated Type).
Background and Purpose of the Project
The NEDO "SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Promotion Program" is based on guidelines established by the law promoting the activation of science and technology and innovation creation. It aims to promote research and development of startups and other entities contributing to solving diverse social issues and to facilitate the smooth social implementation of their results. This program is part of the "Japanese Version SBIR System," which is implemented across government agencies with the Cabinet Office serving as the command center.

In industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, applying robotics technology directly from the automotive and electronics industries is challenging, and the current reliance on human labor is significant. Labor shortages have become a serious issue.
Closer has been developing a novel robot system applicable to the food industry. This project involves research and development in AI image processing and motion planning, focusing on the development and demonstration of a universal robot system for picking irregularly shaped food items.
